The best way to answer this question for yourself is to ask yourself a series of questions. Here they are:

– What is my number 1 challenge?

– Am I ready to make the changes that’ll address this challenge?

– Am I ready to do the work required to address this challenge?

– Am I happy to let a coach help me to do this?

There are three obvious perspectives here…

1. It may be that you feel you can very ably identify, address and work on, not just your number one challenge but indeed all of the challenges you face. In which case, you may decide that you don’t need or want any help from any external party – be they a mentor, a consultant, a trainer or a coach. And it may be that you feel that you can get the results you are looking on your own in the same amount of time as with external support. Meaning, an external intervention wouldn’t speed things up for you. If this is the case, well done and crack on!

2. It may be that you CAN address your number 1 challenge but you’re either not ready to make the changes or you don’t feel you are capable or want to make the necessary changes. If this is the case then there is something standing in your way. At the end of the day, you know what your challenge is but for some reason, something is preventing you from feeling you can take action. My perspective on this is that you need someone to challenge your thinking because if you’re not proactively working on your challenges, chances are you’re slowing your progress (or worst still, you’re going backwards!). But what if you don’t want to let someone help you? Well, the reality is that if you don’t want help then that’s fine. Just make sure that you get done what needs to get done. But be sure in yourself that before you rule out seeking help, that you feel confident that you can accomplish your task in a time-efficient and cost-effective manner…meaning…that you don’t waste time procrastinating or making mistakes or taking un-necessary detours that someone could have helped you avoid.

3. If of course, you feel you can answer the first three questions in the affirmative, and that you say ‘Yes’ to the idea of getting someone to help you, then chances are you’ll really enjoy a relationship with a coach, whose job of course, is to help you get to where you want to be in the most time-efficient, cost-effective and enjoyable way possible.

Whichever route you choose…Good Luck!
